Eric Aguillon accused of shooting a transgender woman he met on a dating site

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A man is accused of shooting her date in the chest and leaving her paralyzed when he found out she was a transgender woman.

This happened in May in southwest Houston near Sharpstown. According to court documents, Eric Aguillon, 25, met the woman on a dating app called “MeetMe”.

Investigators said the two were at her apartment on the morning of May 7 when she told Aguillon she was a transgender woman.

The two had a “verbal exchange”, according to court documents.

“As he tried to leave, our position is that the alleged victim became physical with him, and he was placed in a position where he had to defend himself,” said Aguillon’s lawyer, Val Zuniga.

It was at this point that Aguillon allegedly shot the woman in the chest as she stood in front of his apartment door as he left. The woman asked ABC13 not to release her name, but said there was never a physical altercation.

Court documents said the woman “suffered from paralysis” after being shot.

“Thanks to surgery and rehabilitation, the victim has the function of the arms and upper body but not the legs,” say court documents.

Zuniga said his client claimed to have shot the woman in self-defense.

Although he is not charged, the woman said she believed what happened to him was a hate crime.

“It would never happen if I wasn’t the kind of person I am,” she said. “But like I said, I’m not going to let that deter me. I’m still going to be who I am and get through it.”

The woman said she is undergoing physical therapy and hopes to be able to walk again soon.

Aguillon has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He appeared in court early Monday morning and his bond was raised to $ 280,000. This charge was combined with a previous charge.

Court records show Aguillon was out on bail on another assault charge.

The incident is still under investigation.
