Ticket to Paradise release date | George Clooney movie trailer

Rom-com fans get ready: George Clooney and Julia Roberts star opposite each other in the upcoming Ticket to Paradise film, which is due to hit UK cinemas later in 2022.

Clooney and Roberts have a long history of working together, dating back to 2001’s blockbuster Ocean’s Eleven and the 2004 sequel Ocean’s Twelve, as well as 2016’s Money Monster.

Ticket to Paradise marks their return to romantic comedy, a genre no star has entered in over 20 years.

However, judging by the trailer for the new movie, they really aren’t in love. “The Worst 19 Years of My Life,” Clooney’s character remarks in the trailer, as he references his disastrous marriage to Roberts’ character.

Clooney and Roberts play contentious exes forced into a truce to prevent their daughter from making the same mistake she made 25 years ago by marrying someone they just met.

“Our daughter is going to marry a guy she just met, in Bali, a million miles from her home,” Clooney laments in the trailer.

Clooney and Roberts are also producing the film, while Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Pipski, who was apparently partly to thank for luring Clooney into the project.

“This guy named Ol Parker is a really wonderful writer and director, and he wrote us a script,” Clooney told Deadline in January 2022. “And I haven’t really done a rom-com since One Fine Day. … I made it kind of sarcastic, you know, and in this one, Julia and I get to be mean to each other in the funniest way.”

And Clooney’s involvement was then essential to get Roberts on board.

Clooney went on to say that he called Roberts after reading the script to ask if she was going to sign on for the film. “She goes, ‘Are you going to do this?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, if you do.’ So it was just one of those very lucky things,” he said.

Clooney and Roberts lead the cast alongside Kaitlyn Dever, who plays their daughter Lily.

We don’t have specific names or other character details for Clooney and Roberts yet, but we’ll update this page as soon as we do.

The cast is completed by Maxime Bouttier, Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris), Amanda O’Dempsey, Rowan Chapman, Murran Kain and Vanesa Everett.

Following the news of her casting, Roberts insisted that she hadn’t been in a rom-com in about 20 years was not deliberate.

“People sometimes misinterpret the time that has passed without me doing a rom-com as if I didn’t want to do one,” she told Vanity Fair.

She continued: “If I had read something that I thought was Notting Hill’s level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of crazy fun, I would. They didn’t exist before this movie that I just did that Ol Parker wrote and directed.

Ticket to Paradise Trailer

A trailer has landed for Ticket to Paradise, showing the characters of Clooney and Roberts calling for a truce in order to team up and trick their daughter into dumping her new fiancé. Look above.

But their risky scheme of stealing wedding rings to start a fight doesn’t go exactly as planned…

With plenty of bickering between the exes, wedding shenanigans, and even Clooney getting bitten by a dolphin, there’s clearly a lot to look forward to.
